Cambria Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnay is a wine that is both vineyard specific and estate grown. Located in northern Santa Barbara County on the Santa Maria Bench, the vineyard itself is named after the owner’s eldest daughter and receives meticulous care throughout the growing season. Leaf thinning in early summer allows more sunlight into the clusters which facilitates even ripening and the development of concentrated flavors. In addition, the vineyard team limits irrigation to restrict vine vigor and focus the vine’s energy into the fruit. Green harvesting is practiced at the time of veraison, another technique which forces the vine to put all its energy into the best clusters, resulting in rich and complex wines. Finally, at harvest, the fruit is gently hand-picked by Cambria’s seasoned vineyard crew.
