Craggy Range Pinot Noir Te Muna Road Vineyard 2011

Craggy Range Pinot Noir Te Muna Road Vineyard 750ml 2011
Sku: 1791993

3 day lead-time required to confirm availability Why?

In the cool-climate region of Martinborough, the 33-hectare terraced Te Muna Road Vineyard is planted with eight clones of Pinot Noir in more than 40 different parcels. On the vineyard’s two distinct terraces, stony soils produce exceptional Pinot Noir. Grapes are hand harvested and destemmed before undergoing fermentation in open-top oak tanks. The wine matures on the lees in oak barriques before bottling.

Tasting notes
This dense yet elegant wine offers black fruit, floral and spice aromas and flavors. The palate is silkily structured with layered fine tannins, culminating in a finish that gradually unwinds, revealing bright red berry and violets.

Offers a terrific mix of crisp, juicy strawberry and cranberry flavors on a light and elegant frame, with detailed nuances of spice, loam, black tea, and dried violet on the finish. Drink now through 2022. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 1,300 cases made.-MW

(fermented with wild yeasts): Good bright medium red. Black cherry, spices, smoky oak and underbrush on the nose, plus a hint of strawberry liqueur. Supple, sweet and very ripe, but could use more shape and thrust to its red berry liqueur and earth flavors. Finishes with soft tannins and decent length. Not bad but could use more definition and lift. -- Stephen Tanzer

Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2011 Te Muna Road Vineyard Pinot Noir has a pretty cherry, red berry and lavender nose scented by some underbrush and toast. Medium-bodied the good core of fruit is framed with crisp acid and low to medium levels of very finely grained tannins before finishing long. Drink it now to 2017.

Food pairing
Delicious with poultry, lamb and mushrooms.
