The 2011 Tamjanika, an old, indigenous grape, is all unoaked and sourced from vineyards planted in 1975. It comes in at 13% alcohol. This, when I tasted it, seemed to be a dead ringer for dry Muscat. In fact, I was later told that there was some link to Samos (on Greece, famous for its Muscats). Fresh and perky, with distinctive aromatics and flavors, this is completely charming and invigorating, my favorite of the whites. If you like them on the distinctive side ? my first reaction was the unscientific ””yum!””? this is a winner. This may age better than I think (there is at least a bit of a track record), but I do like to be conservative, so let’s take that in stages. It certainly has some stuffing and good structure. Drink now-2017.
